Why summer should be the healthiest months of your year!

Coming back to the fundamentals of health; you have 3 major, and several minor. The major fundamentals take precedent for which without those the minor really don’t stand a chance. They are Diet, Activity and Rest. Should you choose to allow your body to work for you rather than against you, you can easily remove the stigma and make Summer Your Healthiest Months of the year!
Great choices in your diet. A lot of favorite foods not found fresh throughout the year are finally in season. A visit to the grocery store is so much easier when produce is inexpensive, fresh and delicious. May sound silly but fresh food is also refreshing. With hours of being in the heat and the sun bearing upon you nothing feels better than to bite into a fresh wedge of watermelon or pineapple or strawberries(making myself hungry here); all the sudden regular water is not as appetizing as cucumber water. It’s also an ingenious way to get an abundance of nutrients. Ever notice when the kids have healthy snacks after all their rambunctious activity they somehow manage to have more energy and want to keep going. There is something to that, and you can equally be taking advantage. Choose fruits that contain more water during the warmer days to help keep you and your family hydrated. Another important thing to remember to keep the fruit cool. Nothing’s worse that warm fruit! Fruit cooler for the win! Easiest DIY project ever.
Activity. For most people the summer months are the most active they will be all year! Sad but true. The suns out, we’re getting friends together, the kids are out of school and we got to keep them busy so, we go places we can go have fun. We go to the pool, the zoo, a fair, the lake; we’re going swimming or golfing, to the playground or to the beach. Our kids love it and if we’re being honest our bodies love it too! Some may say that they’re too tired. That’s only if your body is too used to being on the couch. The summer heat and aggressive cooling indoors takes a toll on a body that is used to only one temperature. Regular exercise throughout the year makes the heat or summer much more tolerable. Make yourself sweat as you would being outside in heat 3x a week and all the sudden its no big deal. Also a great detox, so there you go!
Proper Rest. Saving the best for last. Rest is the most underrated importance of health. In actuality, if you don’t sleep well, enough, or take days off, all your efforts to be healthy won’t matter. In fact, it is one of the main reasons people have trouble losing weight. Awesome thing is, with all these activities, we’re more likely to be pooped by the end of the day. Say Hello to recovery time! Summer is also where a lot of people take their vacations. You may put a little bit of money aside each month, save up vacation hours at work and plan throughout the year dreaming of taking the much needed time off work. Waiting for the big breaks in summer is fine but make sure to make some “You” time throughout the year too.
