Reasons People Quit on their Weight Loss Journey

#1  They don’t see “results” fast enough

Now on a phrase like this I could put quotes on fast because it is common knowledge that people have unrealistic expectations of adaptations and changes their body needs to go through in order to lose weight.

How much weight should I hope to lose each week?

A general equation you can use to calculate how much weight you can hope to lose on a weekly basis as a female with no underlying health issues is your (current weight) X (0.007) = weekly weight loss goal

This is REALISTIC number! This is a number designed for LONGEVITY! Which means you won’t go and gain it right back. This number is designed with your health in mind. You want a weight loss that you won’t have to work hard in order to maintain, and that’s what this is.

Define “RESULTS”

Another thing I want to encourage and press on is that the scale is not your only goal, or maybe it is right now, but it shouldn’t be! The scale is a numerical number that’s attached to your relationship with gravity. THAT IS IT. It does not hold your value, your worth, your beauty or any other factor that culture attaches to it.

#2  They have an overall negative outlook

Some people have laid it out in their minds that its not going to work. Some people have told themselves these enough times that they actually believe it. Its heartbreaking to be completely honest because the mind is a POWERFUL thing. Those quote that says if you believe it, you’re already 90% there are true. So, if you continue to tell yourself that you can’t do it, that even if you try its not going to work, it will continue to be true until you make a decision to see otherwise. My questions to you on this would be why? Where along the way did you get this belief and attach it to yourself? There’s healing that’s meant to take place there and I hope youll seek it.

#3  Limits

Limits to foods. Limits to activity. Rules. IDK about you but I like to break rules so somewhere deep down I will if you keep trying to attach them to me. You are allowed to eat all foods. You may be like me that there are certain foods that you don’t allow to be in your house because if they are you will without question, consume those items at a rate faster than any human should(Cheez-its and Nutella). Rules that you eat only these colors on these days. This will lead you into an eating disorder. A thought process that youll work off what you eat. Not true! There are key things to think about when you’re on a journey of eating healthier and fueling your body. But its exactly that, a journey. One bad day, wont ruin it. Your mindset of that one bad day will.

#4  Forcing exercise, particularly the kind you don’t enjoy

Exercise should be fun! Exercise is a challenge to see what your body is capable of. It is not punishment for things you have done/not done/consumed. Amongst your goals should be the ability to do something! I once had a client whose goal was to be able to get up and down from the floor, another who wanted to run a marathon, another who wanted a scholarship by playing tennis, another who wanted to be able to unhook her own bra, one that wanted to complete a mud run, several that wanted to lose weight, feel better in their own skin, confidence. Your exercise should be a reflection of your goals. So, if you want to be better at running, include running. If you want to lift heavier, do it. If you want to be pain free, call me!

#5  Finding a way to enjoy the journey

Take the pressure off of yourself. Increased cortisol won’t help you reach your goals. Remember that your body is a WHOLE, stop trying to section it off with your activity and food intake. Love yourself again even before you reach whatever goal you have in mind. #becauseyoureworthit

Find scripture that empowers you!

Get heart stickers and put them in random places at home, in your car, on your phone. And every time you see it, remember in that moment to love yourself!

Surround yourself with people that empower you!

You are worth never giving up on!

#6  They get sick

This doesn’t happen to everybody and hopefully not you! However, it is actually pretty common in the first two weeks of drastic change. Symptoms like the common cold or even the flu. Just think, this is all your body had been holding onto all this time. Listen to you body in its changes. Rest when you need to and know your limits. This won’t be the first change but like many things, its temporary. Hydrate! I personally still exercise when I have a cold. It doesn’t happen often but when it does, I find that my body does best when I allow myself to sweat it out. Nothing crazy or super hard, just enough to get my body moving, fluids moving, therefore getting the bad out so as I refresh it with good it can take that in. And please please don’t be hard on yourself when you’re sick. It’s a blessing and perhaps a forced rest that you otherwise would not have taken. Your body simply said I need this today and I’m forcing you to pay attention, thank you.

#7  They don’t know what to do

Never be afraid to ask for help. Whether you call us or any other professional, know where you stand, what you currently understand and what you don’t. Try not to google everything because as you know in the fitness industry you will hear opposing information nonstop. Its sad but true. The trick is to talk to the experts in their field. I know a lot about muscles, correction, the human body and how its designed to function. I don’t work with men, and I don’t know is how to prep for a competition as a female, those are areas outside of my expertise but people in those worlds exist. Find your person based on the information you’re looking for to get the answers you seek to know more about! Humility can be a trait harder to find but I’ll tell you the best people and experts I ever met were the ones that knew when to say, “I don’t know the answer to that question, but let me find out from someone that does”. What does that mean to you. Ask questions. Youll only get annoying to the people that don’t have the integrity to answer them. With that you just narrowed down your search in who to ask!
